THE FLY-IN IS A GO. - The Board and friends decided unanimously to hold the fly-in this coming February. We will have a flyer available soon.

POOL SPLASH at Judy's (weather permitting) -

Our SPLASH last Friday was postponed one more week. We are invited back to Judy's for an evening pool party this coming Friday, October 7, from 6:00 until 9:00. It will be a potluck and pool party.  Hopefully we'll see some of you who haven't been able to dance lately, but can enjoy the pool and a social gathering. It has been suggested that we might try synchronized swimming. We will see about that.

Please bring food to share with the group. Judy will provide water, and Robin and Judy are providing Sloppy Joe's. We'll also share whatever you choose to bring to the party.

Join us on Monday, Oct 3, for our second Open House. Our first Open House was somewhat spoiled by Ian, but we did have a few hearty, fun new dancers who came to give square dancing a try.

And our Introduction to Advanced on Thursday was spoiled as well, so we'll welcome anyone wanting to try Advanced to this Thursday evening's dancing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Review/Warm-Up - There will be no review this week prior to dancing. It will resume next week.

New Class Begins - From 7:00 until 8:30on Monday, J.R. will be calling for us. There will be a Plus workshop and dancing from 8:30 to 9:30.

THIS THURSDAY: ADVANCED AND C-1 - The C-1 workshop is from 6:30 until 7:15.

New Advanced Class - This is an opportunity for new dancers who want to give the Advanced level a try. The class will start with some Plus calls that haven't been covered on Monday evenings and will progress to all of the Advanced calls. The class will be from 7:20 until 9:00. Those who have completed Social Square Dancing and who have learned a portion of the Plus Calls are invited to attend this introduction to Advanced.

WHERE WE DANCE: The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.

RESOURCES TO LEARN OR REVIEW SQUARE DANCE CALLS - For those of you who wish to review calls or get a head start on learning new calls, there are links to a couple fo teaching websites on the Suncoast Squares website: Go to suncoastsquares.com and look for the ribbon menu on the top of the page. Select "More" on the right, and then select "Resources".

Links to two different websites may be helpful to you:

Taminations - the calls are listed and then illustrated by little emojis. Chose "SSD" if you are in the new class, or chose the appropriate level for other calls.

Saddlebrook Squares - There are lessons systematically going through the calls. The calls are illustrated by traditional square dancers, which makes the "girls" and "boys" more easily identified than they are in our club (smile). Find the square dance lessons in the middle of the page and look for Mainstream if you are in our new class (This is the SSD level we are learning plus a few more calls). You should be able to find all the calls that we have learned.

TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK

Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please  wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.

A NOTE TO THOSE NOT DANCING BECAUSE OF COVID AND OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS - First of all, we miss you. You are definitely not forgotten. Secondly, we understand completely. Covid has thrown a curve ball into all of our lives, and, just when we thought things were getting better, unfortunately they got worse again. The decision about where you feel comfortable and safe is an individual one, and sometimes not an easy one. We hope that there will be a time when many more of us feel comfortable gathering and dancing together. For now, we are dancing with those in our group who feel safe in our current setting. We realize that this group may change, even from week to week. We are doing our best to be thoughtful and respectful of everyone. We send "yellow rocks" to all of you, especially to those we haven't been able to see for a long time. We look forward to seeing you when things improve.

A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances. One of our members had valuables taken from her car while she was dancing. We want to be sure this does not happen again.

FRIDAY WALK

A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We will meet for the walk in the park this Friday.

NEXT YEAR'S CONVENTION - will be held in Ottawa, Canada. If you are considering attending, now would be a good time to check to make sure that your passport will be valid for July of 2023.

MISSING EMAILS - If you didn't receive the weekly email, you won't see this item (I get it). But some members have not been receiving the emails. If they aren't opened for a while, the new website classifies these people as "inactive" and doesn't want to send them emails. If you know of someone who isn't receiving emails, we have a temporary workaround. Just let me know who they are. Thank you.

A few pictures from last Monday night's dance with Scotty Sharrer.

Due to Covid restrictions, we have a limited amount of in-person events and postings. Stay tuned or join our email list to be informed of upcoming events.

But do check out our calendar for what's happening virtually, in smaller outdoor groups and on Zoom.
