A family of ...
MAINSTREAM CLASS - Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 - We have some wonderful new dancers on Monday evenings. Join us Monday so that we can review as we help them learn. This is also a great opportunity for dancers who need a reboot.
EARLY REVIEW FOR NEW DANCERS (AND ANGELS) - Starting this week, Joey Norton will lead a group from 6:30 to 7:00 to review calls that have been taught. This will be held on the patio (come inside as you regularly do and go out the door by the kitchen). Hopefully this will make you more comfortable as we start the regular class at 7:00. Questions about calls are welcome during this session..
PLUS DANCING: NEW PLUS CLASS CONTINUES THIS WEEK - Monday from 8:30 until 9:30, after the beginning class dancing. We'll start over with a new Plus class this week. It will be a great time for a reboot for those who have forgotten some Plus calls.
THURSDAYS: ADVANCED CLASS - We are working our way through the Advanced calls. We have some new advanced class members. As with beginners, it is a good opportunity for folks who have forgotten a lot of the Advanced calls to resume dancing. Cost for Thursdays is $7. We will dance from 7:00 until 9:00. We'll do our best to have something for everyone. If you missed the start, you are still welcome to join us on Thursday.
TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK
Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.
A NOTE TO THOSE NOT DANCING BECAUSE OF COVID AND OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS - First of all, we miss you. You are definitely not forgotten. Secondly, we understand completely. Covid has thrown a curve ball into all of our lives, and, just when we thought things were getting better, unfortunately they got worse again. The decision about where you feel comfortable and safe is an individual one, and sometimes not an easy one. We hope that there will be a time when many more of us feel comfortable gathering and dancing together. For now, we are dancing with those in our group who feel safe in our current setting. We realize that this group may change, even from week to week. We are doing our best to be thoughtful and respectful of everyone. We send "yellow rocks" to all of you, especially to those we haven't been able to see for a long time. We look forward to seeing you when things improve.
LOOKING FORWARD TO HALLOWEEN AND DAY OF THE DEAD - Start thinking about costumes now. We will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 26, and Day of the Dead on Monday, November 1. Both offer opportunities for costumes, and we will look forward to seeing your new (or recycled) costumes. October birthdays will also be celebrated Monday, October the 25th. Joey Norton will be calling. There will possibly be an opportunity for some Contra dancing as well.
DANGLE ISSUES - Do you have dangles that need to be attached or reattached? Rachael will be out for a couple of more weeks with family, but she will be delighted to resolve all your dangle difficulties when she returns. Stay tuned for a date to bring your badge and/or dangles.
PROMENADE SQUARES HALLOWEEN DANCE - We have been invited to join Promenade Squares for their Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct.22 from 7:00 until 9:00. Sam Dunn will be calling, and Carol Griffin will be cuing. There will be costumes and prizes. The dance is at Forbes Recreation Ce tea, 6401 94th Ave N, Pinellas Park.
WHERE WE DANCE : The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.
A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances. One of our members had valuables taken from her car while she was dancing. We want to be sure this does not happen again.
NEW SOUND EQUIPMENT!
We've had some trouble hearing calls in our new venue, but things have improved significantly. We have a new speaker, and the sound is great.
A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We WILL meet for the walk in the park this Friday.
TWINCITY SPIN 2022
After two years of virtual conventions, we look forward next year to an in-person convention in Minneapolis. Note that the dates are different from our typical convention dates. The convention will be held May 27-29. You may register for the convention or book hotel rooms by going to the IAGSDC website: IAGSDC.org. Find the box for Twincity Spin 2022 (with the blue outline). You can elect to register or make hotel reservations. (I have registered for the convention, and will be attending).
MISSING EMAILS - If you didn't receive this email, you won't see this item (I get it). But some members have not been receiving the weekly emails. If they aren't opened for a while, the new website classifies these people as "inactive" and doesn't want to send them emails. If you know of someone who isn't receiving emails, we have a temporary workaround. Just let me know who they are. Thanks.
