------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There will be dancing this coming week, both Monday and Thursday evenings. Please join us if you are in town. Show off any new gear you received for the holidays or just work off a few of the extra calories you consumed at holiday parties or meals.

"SPLASH" AND POT LUCK AT JUDY'S - We will have an afternoon "Splash" and pot-luck at Judy's home on the afternoon of January 29. Please put this on your calendar. It will be from 1:00 until 4:00.

SUNCOAST SQUARES MEMBERSHIP FOR 2023 - It's the time of year when we invite new dancers to officially join Suncoast Squares and invite past members to renew their membership for the coming year. Dues are $15 for the year. There will be cards available to complete for membership at the Monday and Thursday evening club nights. The dues cover insurance costs as well as badges for new dancers who complete the Introductory Social Square Dancing series of calls.

BRUSH-UP SESSIONS - If you are considering attending our fly-in in February, you might want to brush up on calls before the event. We are planning some brush up sessions on weekends. Please sign up on Monday or Thursday evenings if you would like to participate. Depending on interest, we will have sessions for SSD (for graduates), Plus, Advanced, and possibly C-1.

OUR FLY-IN IS A GO. - The Board and friends decided unanimously to hold the fly-in this coming February. We will have a flyer available soon. The theme will be "Flamboyantly Flamingo". Clear your calendar for President's Day weekend (Feb. 17-20). We will dance Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday in St. Pete. Then we will dance Monday at Fort de soto Park. Jayne is heading up the fly-in committee. Please say "yes" if she asks you to help. It would be a good time to send in your registration. Registration forms are on the Suncoast Squares website. Find "Annual Fly In" on the ribbon at the top of the site, and you will see a registration form that you can download.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MONDAY, January 16 from 7:00 until 9:30 - SANDWICH DANCE WITH SCOTTY SHARRER - There will be dancing for all levels. Levels will alternate. If you are a costume person, see what you can wear with a sandwich theme. We will also celebrate January birthdays and anniversaries on Monday evening. There will be cake.

Intro/Review/Warm-Up - The review sessions will continue this week. New dancers are encouraged to attend these sessions for a review of calls that have been taught. This session is a little slower paced, so it's a good warm up for the dancing that follows. This is held from 6:30 until 7:00, just before the regular Social Square Dancing begins. Angels are always needed and welcome.

Plus Dancing - There will be Plus dancing and workshop during the second part of the evening. From 8:30 to 9:30

THIS THURSDAY: ADVANCED AND C-1 - The C-1 workshop is from 6:30 to 7:15 and Advanced workshop/dancing is from 7:20 until 9:00, or as long as we last.

WHERE WE DANCE: The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.

RESOURCES TO LEARN OR REVIEW SQUARE DANCE CALLS - For those of you who wish to review calls or get a head start on learning new calls, there are links to a couple fo teaching websites on the Suncoast Squares website: Go to suncoastsquares.com and look for the ribbon menu on the top of the page. Select "More" on the right, and then select "Resources".

Links to two different websites may be helpful to you:

Taminations - the calls are listed and then illustrated by little emojis. Chose "SSD" if you are in the new class, or chose the appropriate level for other calls.

Saddlebrook Squares - There are lessons systematically going through the calls. The calls are illustrated by traditional square dancers, which makes the "girls" and "boys" more easily identified than they are in our club (smile). Find the square dance lessons in the middle of the page and look for Mainstream if you are in our new class (This is the SSD level we are learning plus a few more calls). You should be able to find all the calls that we have learned.

TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK

Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please  wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.

A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances.

FRIDAY WALK

A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We will meet for the walk in the park this Friday.

THE 2023 IAGSDC (International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs) CONVENTION - will be held in Ottawa, Canada. If you are considering attending, now would be a good time to check to make sure that your passport will be valid for July of 2023.It would also be a good time to register on the IAGSDC website and to make your room reservations.

MISSING EMAILS - If you didn't receive the weekly email, you won't see this item (I get it). But some members have not been receiving the emails. If they aren't opened for a while, the new website classifies these people as "inactive" and doesn't want to send them emails. If you know of someone who isn't receiving emails, we have a temporary workaround. Just let me know who they are. Thank you.

Photos from our Color Wheel dance last Monday and a couple from the the Atlanta Fly-in "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

Due to Covid restrictions, we have a limited amount of in-person events and postings. Stay tuned or join our email list to be informed of upcoming events.

But do check out our calendar for what's happening virtually, in smaller outdoor groups and on Zoom.
