Below are our most recent Announcements in full. You can also sign up to receive these Announcements on  email by contacting us.

Due to Covid restrictions, we have a limited amount of in-person events and postings. Stay tuned or join our email list to be informed of upcoming events.

But do check out our calendar for what's happening virtually, in smaller outdoor groups and on Zoom.

A family of ...

MAINSTREAM CLASS - Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 - We have some wonderful new dancers on Monday evenings. Join us Monday so that we can review as we help them learn. This is also a great opportunity for dancers who need a reboot.

EARLY REVIEW FOR NEW DANCERS (AND ANGELS) - Joey will lead the early review from 6:30 until 7:00 on Monday.

PLUS DANCING - Monday from 8:30 until 9:30, after the beginning class dancing. This is a great time for a reboot for those who have forgotten some Plus calls.

THURSDAYS: ADVANCED CLASS - We are working our way through the Advanced calls. We have some new advanced class members.  As with beginners, it is a good opportunity for folks who have forgotten a lot of the Advanced calls to resume dancing. Cost for Thursdays is $7. We will dance from 7:00 until 9:00.  We'll do our best to have something for everyone. If you missed the start, you are still welcome to join us on Thursday.

CHALLENGE 1 - We are considering resuming the C-1 workshop on Thursdays. Please let Dan know if you are interested. We will need to have a minimum of 10 dancers to begin.

HOLIDAY PARTY - Save the date! This year our holiday party will be on a THURSDAY evening, December 16. There will be a potluck as well as a white elephant gift exchange. Our favorite MC will return to oversee distribution of gifts and then any wrestling matches provoked by the most popular gifts.

FLIP THE FLAMINGO IS A GO! - The club board met last week and decided that it was time to resume our annual fly-in. This will be held President's Day weekend in February. We will require proof of vaccination to participate. Our guest callers will be Chris Phillips, from South Florida, and Michael Kellogg, from southern California. We will also enjoy calling by our club caller, J.R. St Jean.

Flyers with registration forms will be available at club this week and until the fly-in.

Thanks to those who have already volunteered to help with the fly-in. Please consider joining them. Let Dan know if you are interested in helping. We will have a planning meeting soon and would love to have several of you included in planning the event.

ATLANTA FLY-IN - There will be a weekend fly-in in Atlanta over MLK Weekend. Several from out club are planning to attend. There are flyers available at club nights Monday and Thursday evenings.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FOR 2022 - As most of you know, we did not collect membership dues last year, but simply extended membership for everyone for a year. This year we will collect membership dues. The dues are $15 and we ask that you complete a form when you submit your dues. Forms for 2022 will be available starting this week at club nights Mondays and Thursdays.

RESOURCES TO LEARN OR REVIEW SQUARE DANCE CALLS - For those of you who wish to review calls or get a head start on learning new calls, there are links to a couple fo teaching websites on the Suncoast Squares website: Go to and look for the ribbon menu on the top of the page. Select "More" on the right, and then select "Resources".

Links to two different websites may be helpful to you:

Taminations - the calls are listed and then illustrated by little emojis. Chose "SSD" if you are in the new class, or chose the appropriate level for other calls.

Saddlebrook Squares - There are lessons systematically going through the calls. The calls are illustrated by traditional square dancers, which makes the "girls" and "boys" more easily identified than they are in our club (smile). Find the square dance lessons in the middle of the page and look for Mainstream if you are in our new class (This is the SSD level we are learning plus a few more calls). You should be able to find all the calls that we have learned.

Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please  wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.

A NOTE TO THOSE NOT DANCING BECAUSE OF COVID AND OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS - First of all, we miss you. You are definitely not forgotten. Secondly, we understand completely. Covid has thrown a curve ball into all of our lives, and, just when we thought things were getting better, unfortunately they got worse again. The decision about where you feel comfortable and safe is an individual one, and sometimes not an easy one. We hope that there will be a time when many more of us feel comfortable gathering and dancing together. For now, we are dancing with those in our group who feel safe in our current setting. We realize that this group may change, even from week to week. We are doing our best to be thoughtful and respectful of everyone. We send "yellow rocks" to all of you, especially to those we haven't been able to see for a long time. We look forward to seeing you when things improve.

DANGLE ISSUES - Do you have dangles that need to be attached or reattached? Rachael will be out for a couple of more weeks with family, but she will be delighted to resolve all your dangle difficulties when she returns. Stay tuned for a date to bring your badge and/or dangles.

WHERE WE DANCE : The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.

A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances. One of our members had valuables taken from her car while she was dancing. We want to be sure this does not happen again.

A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We WILL meet for the walk in the park this Friday.

After two years of virtual conventions, we look forward next year to an in-person convention in Minneapolis. Note that the dates are different from our typical convention dates. The convention will be held May 27-29. You may register for the convention or book hotel rooms by going to the IAGSDC website: Find the box for Twincity Spin 2022 (with the blue outline). You can elect to register or make hotel reservations. (I have registered for the convention, and will be attending).

MISSING EMAILS - If you didn't receive the weekly email, you won't see this item (I get it). But some members have not been receiving the emails. If they aren't opened for a while, the new website classifies these people as "inactive" and doesn't want to send them emails. If you know of someone who isn't receiving emails, we have a temporary workaround. Just let me know who they are. Thanks.
