Suncoast Squares is in need of new board members. It is the time of year when we select our new board. Please consider joining the board. Talk to any current board member to get information. The board positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and At Large Board Member. We would like to have others involved who are not formally board members. If you have interest, we'd love to talk with you about possibilities.
We have a good group of new dancers again this time around. A couple of pictures from last week are below. You'll note some touches of green where square dancers dressed to celebrate the upcoming Saint Patrick's Day holiday.
MARCH BIRTHDAYS WILL BE CELEBRATED THIS MONDAY, MARCH 27th
SPLASH - at Judy's place April 23 from 1:00 to 4:00. Pot luck and swimming. Hot dogs and water will be provided by Robin and Judy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MONDAY, from 7:00 until 8:30 - Social Square Dancing - J.R. will be calling. Come and join us, meet the new dancers and support them as they learn the first level of square dancing.
INTRO/REVIEW/WARM UP THIS WEEK! - The review session will take place this week. New dancers are encouraged to attend these sessions for a review of calls that have been taught previously. This session is a little slower paced, so it's a good warm up for the dancing that follows. This is held from 6:30 until 7:00, just before the regular Social Square Dancing begins. Joey will be teaching. Angels are always needed and welcome.
Plus Dancing - There will be Plus dancing and workshop during the second part of the evening from 8:30 to 9:30. We are starting from the beginning for any new to Plus.
THIS THURSDAY: ADVANCED AND C-1- NOTE TIME CHANGE - The C-1 workshop is from 6:30 to 7:30 and Advanced workshop/dancing is from 7:35 until 9:00, or as long as we last. J.R. will be back with us this week. We are starting from the beginning with the Advanced workshop. We expect to have guests from Strawberry Square this week.
WHERE WE DANCE: The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.
RESOURCES TO LEARN OR REVIEW SQUARE DANCE CALLS - For those of you who wish to review calls or get a head start on learning new calls, there are links to a couple fo teaching websites on the Suncoast Squares website: Go to suncoastsquares.com and look for the ribbon menu on the top of the page. Select "More" on the right, and then select "Resources".
Links to two different websites may be helpful to you:
Taminations - the calls are listed and then illustrated by little emojis. Chose "SSD" if you are in the new class, or chose the appropriate level for other calls.
Saddlebrook Squares - There are lessons systematically going through the calls. The calls are illustrated by traditional square dancers, which makes the "girls" and "boys" more easily identified than they are in our club (smile). Find the square dance lessons in the middle of the page and look for Mainstream if you are in our new class (This is the SSD level we are learning plus a few more calls). You should be able to find all the calls that we have learned.
TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK
Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.
A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances.
FRIDAY WALK
A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We will meet for the walk in the park this Friday.
ANOTHER THEATRICAL OPPORTUNITY - Michael Gregory will be performing at Early Bird Theatre in Clearwater. The evening includes dinner (early) and the play. Dinner starts at 4:00 (that's why it's called Early Bird Theatre). The cost is $45. The play runs from March 9 Thru April 23. Reservations can be made ahead of time, but you must pay for your ticket in Cash or by Check at the time of the play. Some of us are planning to attend on Friday, March 24. If you can't attend then, you might want to attend another night. The website (with information about reservations is earlybirddinnertheatre.com. The play is "Mom's Gift".
