Below are our most recent Announcements in full. You can also sign up to receive these Announcements on  email by contacting us.

LAST WEEK'S UNIFORM DANCE - We had a great time last week with Scotty and friends from Promenade Squares. Many fun unirorms were on display. And Scotty made the evening fun for all of us. A few pictures are attached at the end of this page.

OPEN HOUSES IN THE FUTURE - It will be at least a couple of months before we welcome brand new dancers, but keep a list of any fun friends who might we interested in this activity in the future.

We are invited back to Judy's for an evening pool party this coming Friday, August 12, from 6:00 until 9:00. It will be a potluck and pool party. The weather should be very suitable for swimming, and my guess is that the zip line might get another workout.  Hopefully we'll see some of you who haven't been able to dance lately, but can enjoy the pool and a social gathering.  Please bring food to share with the group. Judy will provide water and   we'll share whatever you choose to bring to the party.

BOARD MEETING AND PLANNING MEETING - Sunday afternoon, August 28, at 3:00, to discuss plans for the fall and Flip the Flamingo. The meeting will be at Dan's condo. All who would like to help with planning are invited, but you must let Dan know you are coming. It is a gated community, and you will need to check in at the gate.

GRADUATION - August 29. We have a very small class that has completed the Social Square Dancing program, but we all enjoy graduation, and it's well-deserved for our special graduate! It will be a party.

NEW CLASSES WILL BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER (DATE YET TO BE DETERMINED) - Both for Social Square dancing (on Monday evenings) and Advanced (on Thursday evenings). Please be thinking of friends who might be interested in joining us, and also be thinking about whether you are about ready to start Advanced lessons.

Review/Warm-Up - from 6:30 to 7:00.  Joey will lead this half hour. It is useful for review and also as a warm-up before reguar dancing begins. This is a helpful slower paced exposure to calls, and a comfortable place to ask questions about a specific call. Angels are always welcome at this session.

SOCIAL SQUARE DANCING - From 7:00 until 8:30. This is a chance for newer dancers to learn the few remaining calls before graduation and to practice dancing. It's also a great time for all of us to enjoy dancing and seeing friends.

PLUS AND ADVANCED DANCING  - 8:30 to 9:30. There will be one or two new Plus calls introduced, and we will practice dancing at the Plus Level.

THURSDAY: ADVANCEDAND C-1 - There will be a C-1 workshop from 6:30 until 7:10 if there are enough C dancers present. The rest of the evening until 9:00 will be Advanced workshop and dancing.

WHERE WE DANCE: The Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, is located at 500 Sunset Dr. S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33707. Lots of parking on the circle in front and on the lawn parking areas.

RESOURCES TO LEARN OR REVIEW SQUARE DANCE CALLS - For those of you who wish to review calls or get a head start on learning new calls, there are links to a couple fo teaching websites on the Suncoast Squares website: Go to and look for the ribbon menu on the top of the page. Select "More" on the right, and then select "Resources".

Links to two different websites may be helpful to you:

Taminations - the calls are listed and then illustrated by little emojis. Chose "SSD" if you are in the new class, or chose the appropriate level for other calls.

Saddlebrook Squares - There are lessons systematically going through the calls. The calls are illustrated by traditional square dancers, which makes the "girls" and "boys" more easily identified than they are in our club (smile). Find the square dance lessons in the middle of the page and look for Mainstream if you are in our new class (This is the SSD level we are learning plus a few more calls). You should be able to find all the calls that we have learned.

Some have asked about masks because of new CDC guidance. Please  wear a mask while dancing if you have not been vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, please use your best judgment. We treasure every dancer. You are the reason we exist, and we want you to be safe and comfortable.

A NOTE TO THOSE NOT DANCING BECAUSE OF COVID AND OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS - First of all, we miss you. You are definitely not forgotten. Secondly, we understand completely. Covid has thrown a curve ball into all of our lives, and, just when we thought things were getting better, unfortunately they got worse again. The decision about where you feel comfortable and safe is an individual one, and sometimes not an easy one. We hope that there will be a time when many more of us feel comfortable gathering and dancing together. For now, we are dancing with those in our group who feel safe in our current setting. We realize that this group may change, even from week to week. We are doing our best to be thoughtful and respectful of everyone. We send "yellow rocks" to all of you, especially to those we haven't been able to see for a long time. We look forward to seeing you when things improve.

OPEN HOUSES IN THE FUTURE - It will be at least a couple of months before we welcome brand new dancers, but keep a list of any fun friends who might we interested in this activity in the future.

A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY - Please be sure your car is locked when you attend our dances. One of our members had valuables taken from her car while she was dancing. We want to be sure this does not happen again.

A small group of Suncoast Squares meets at Lake Seminole Park on Fridays at 11:30 for a walk and then a picnic (bring your own food). We meet at Pavilion 9. Contact Alan or Sue if you have questions about this activity. We will meet for the walk in the park this Friday.

NEXT YEAR'S CONVENTION - will be held in Ottawa, Canada. If you are considering attending, now would be a good time to check to make sure that your passport will be valid for July of 2023.

MISSING EMAILS - If you didn't receive the weekly email, you won't see this item (I get it). But some members have not been receiving the emails. If they aren't opened for a while, the new website classifies these people as "inactive" and doesn't want to send them emails. If you know of someone who isn't receiving emails, we have a temporary workaround. Just let me know who they are. Thank you.

Due to Covid restrictions, we have a limited amount of in-person events and postings. Stay tuned or join our email list to be informed of upcoming events.

But do check out our calendar for what's happening virtually, in smaller outdoor groups and on Zoom.
